Lighting is one of my absolute favorite elements of our renovation designs.
Truthfully, lighting can easily be overlooked. The impact can feel less noticeable than say, paint colors or tile choices but I promise, when it’s all said and done, lighting is an incredibly important element that ties a space together.

I actually get asked often where I source lighting and the truth is simple:
I source lighting anywhere but from a large box store.
If you’ve followed our renovations, you know that I’m a huge fan of using large box stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot for our tile, bathroom vanities, faucets and sinks.
But, in my opinion, the in-store lighting options in bigger retailers are lacking.

Tips for buying lighting online:
- If you’re renovating, lighting actually needs to be chosen much sooner in the process than most people realize. Your electrician will need to know lighting specs, placement and, in some cases, style while wiring your space. Be prepared so that you don’t have to choose under pressure.
- Remember that most wall mounted, multi light fixtures can be hung as shown or “upside down”
- If replacing an existing fixture, be sure to check the “cutting diameter” in the full product description
- This is personal preference, but I liking mixing metals in a space. If you are planning to choose one metal and stick with it for all finishes, don’t forget that this includes lighting!
- If you’re having a tough time visualizing a size and style, enter fixture’s make and model into the Pinterest search bar! This is how I get a good idea of how the fixture might look in real life as opposed to the product listing images.
Happy sourcing!
